2018 Summer Movie Preview - Beyond The Video

There’s no doubt that this summer is going to be a big one for some of our favorite movie franchises, though, most of the exciting movies coming out right now are just that, continuations of franchises. Some are direct sequels while others are expansions within the universe. Most of them are exciting, some are concerning, but regardless, it should be an interesting summer.

First up, the honorable mentions. These are movies that we’re incredibly excited about, but are either coming out later in the summer, or have a more of a cult following.

The Incredibles 2 is coming out June 15th and fans of the original are thrilled! It’s now been 14 years since The (original) Incredibles hit theaters and most fans feel that it’s been too long. With most of the original cast returning it’s bound to have the same quality of acting as the original.

Moving on, the long-awaited sequel to Super Troopers is on the way after an even longer wait, 17 years, and the fans of the cult classic are ecstatic. The movie releases April 19th

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the next on our list releasing June 22nd. After the first of the new series of films hit theaters, fans were relieved as the movie felt like a breath of fresh air for the franchise, and with Chris Pratt returning as the lead, we have high hopes that it will continue to be just that.

The last of our honorable mentions is Ant Man and the Wasp. The sequel to the original Ant Man has some big shoes to fill in the Marvel world with speculation that Tony Stark or Steve Rogers might bite the dust in Infinity War and this movie will prove if Paul Rudd is up to the job. What’s interesting, however, is that Paul Rudd is not slated to be in Infinity War and the new movie will be released in between Infinity War and the second movie in the Infinity War arch. It’s also interesting to note that Scott Lang and Hope Pym in the trailer seem a little more antagonistic than we’d expect from a super hero duo. We’ll all find out on July 6th.

And now, for our big three!

Deadpool 2 is coming out exactly one month from today and we couldn’t be more thrilled! After the massive success that was the first Deadpool we thoroughly expect more hijinks from the merc-with-a-mouth and all of the irreverent humor of the first, with the added bonus of the greatest bromance in comic book history with the arrival of Cable in the sequel. With plenty of fourth wall breaking in the trailers, posters, and social media posts already, we’re incredibly excited for this movie and would encourage all of you to go see it multiple times. (What? Oh, right.) And also write great reviews of it online. And I assure you, Deadpool is not here with a gun to my head right meow. Sorry… went back to Super Troopers.

But that’s not all! The following week, on the 25th of May, Solo: A Star Wars Story comes out. After the incredibly polarizing 8th chapter of the Skywalker saga, it’ll be very interesting to see what Disney and Lucasfilm does, especially with Ron Howard directing. Alden Ehrenreich plays a younger Han Solo with Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. Some fans have already been incredibly critical of Ehrenreich because he’s not Harrison Ford, but we’re hopeful and have noticed that he pulls off some of the nuance that Harrison Ford brought to the role.

Lastly, though it is the most eminent release Avengers: Infinity War drops April 23rd. That’s right, the team that has been building for the past ten years and 18 movies is nearly complete for the first of the two part Infinity War story arch! Confirmed in the roster are Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, Bucky Barnes, Loki, Vision, Star Lord, Nebula, Rocket Racoon, Groot, Gamora, Drax, and of course we can’t forget Sony’s Spiderman. And others that I’ve certainly forgotten… However, some characters are notably missing, namely Ant Man as we mentioned previously, and Hawkeye, though they may join up for the second part of this event.

One thing that we’ve been speculating since Disney’s acquisition of Fox is if there would be any properties that belong to Fox making a cameo. It’s certainly a possibility now and would be a very interesting power move on Marvel’s part and quite a treat for us fans who’ve been hoping for a team up since we first heard the words “Avenger Initiative” on the big screen.

But of course, that’s all we have time for today, so until next time, we are Orc Rogues!
